Canadian Students Visit BCSD Campus

February 26, 2019 - As part of an ongoing relationship between the Bishop Allen Academy in Toronto and Compton Jr. High, more than 50 Canadian students took part in this long distance social exploration with BCSD students.

In 2015 the two schools originally combined their efforts to write a play and create music videos that focused on contemporary issues facing young people.

The collaboration began when Compton English teacher, Jennifer Scott connected through a professional learning network on social media with a Bishop Allen Academy teacher.

“This effort will help us break down barriers to sharing internationally that will give us ideas to grow our afterschool programs and the activities we can do in class,”
said Jennifer Scott, teacher.

The two schools joined forces in visual and performing arts. During the visit, the Canadian students watched several performances by Compton students in song and dance.
Then the two groups combined efforts to create choir music and explore theatrical techniques through drama improvisation.
