Word Analysis, Fluency, and Systematic Vocabulary Development

8RW 1.1  Analyze idioms, analogies, metaphors, and similes to infer the literal and figurative meanigns of phrases.

Reading Comprehension (Focus on Informational Materials)

8RC 2.4  Compare the original text to a summary to determine whether the summay accurately captures the main ideas, includes critical details, and conveys the underlying meaning.

Literary Response and Analysis

8RL 3.1  Determine and articulate the relationship between the purposes and characteristics of different forms of poetry (for example, ballad, lyric, couplet, epic, elegy, ode, sonnet).

8RL 3.6 Identify significant literary devices (for example, metaphor, symbolism, dialect, irony) that define a writer's style, and use those elements to intrepret the work.

Written Conventions

8WC 1.4  Edit written manuscripts to ensure that correct grammar is used.

8WC 1.5  Correct capitalization and punctuation.
